- 1874 – The Miami Valley Narrow Gauge Railway, the predecessor of the Miami Valley Railway in Ohio, is incorporated.
- 1885 – The last spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway is driven (pictured) at Craigellachie, British Columbia.
- 1889 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway consolidates several of its subsidiary railroads in California into the Southern California Railway.[1]
- 1978 – The Illinois Railway Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary.
