I've just added the list of the Soviet fronts and linked them. Please, correct the names if they're wrong and let the work on the article begin (hopefully). It would really help if someone could, probably, alphabetize the whole list. KNewman 15:39, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

front conflicts

Fronts with names like "Northern Front" and "Northwestern Front" and "Western Front " are too common in English. "Western Front (Soviet Army)" has already has a disambiguation extention and it would be a good idea to do this will all the other fronts named with points of the compass. I sugget that the format is "Soviet Western Front" as that is similar in format to "British XX Army Group" or "US XX Army Group" eg US 12th Army Group.

Maybe this will help. Using: http://world.altavista.com/ "Translate a Web page:" (Russian to English) and a little bit of hand formatting returned the below which of course needs more porcessing. operation structure

Hi. I have created and begun working on the Soviet strategic, and operational, operations during WW2. It seems to me that it is a better idea to provide front compositions in the context of the operations then to create raw composition lists since this doesn't give context or purpose for their composition, or performance of the Fronts or their armies.
What I'd like to propose is a collaborative effort. I think its worth while keeping this article for the brief introduction to the fronts and their changes over time as well as linkages to their commanders, but the actual structures to be redirected to the Strategic operations of the Red Army in World War II which is at very early start stage. Please do not do this NOW, as I'm in the process of proofreading the rather extensive The Red Army in the victories and defeats: years 1941-1945 tables.
Eventually the objective is to link up with the work started by others on the Soviet divisions and corps, and to link up correlation of Wehrmacht operations in the form 'Soviet operation A-C was a response to the Wehrmacht operation codenamed P' - Ok? How does this sound?
BTW, I have the Front commanders, but not translated, so would you mind if I borrowed the already translated commanders for use in the operations article just to save me the time? The entire front might report either to STAVKA or a TVD, or Teatr Voennykh Deistvii— Theatre of Military Operations. - TVDs did not exist during the Second World War, and the Stavka was replaced during the Cold War with the General Staff--mrg3105mrg3105 09:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Page structure

I'd like to rearrange the fronts into a chrono-geographic order to reflect the periods and campaign in Soviet historiography of the war. This would be done in progressing towards creating an integrated German-Soviet chronology of the war. German Army Groups

I'm going to have a look, but I doubt that I will find an explicit statement on comparison between German WWII Army Groups and Fronts. The simple OOB comparison however readily suggests the vast differences in their structure and sizes, with each being equivalent to 2-3 Fronts. Roughly the comparison is
