[edit]It features two desk lamps (inspired by a LUXO task-light found on his desk, hence the title) Whose desk? -- DynSkeet 15:46, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I'm glad you noticed this. You're great!!! Luxo and Luxo, Jr. were inspired by a desk lamp on John Lasseter's desk.
Names!

Sesame Street
[edit]This article gives a mention about the strikingly similar sketches seen on Sesame Street (hm, alliteration indeed). I would like to know, however, if anyone knows anything about whether or not Pixar actually had anything to do with it.
I don't know about this short specifically but according to Muppet Wiki "In 1990,[1] the studio, through John Lasseter, produced a series of shorts for Sesame Street featuring Luxo Jr.. [sic]
" The source says that its The Street We Live On time line but I don't have access to it to double check. Thehatinthecat (talk) 04:47, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Dude, I've had very distinct memories about this type of lamp and Sesame Street. THANK YOU for showing that I'm not crazy. We need to find these shorts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.47.43.36 (talk) 04:44, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
"English"
[edit]On the information box of this article, there is a "Language" section. This section shows the word "English". Is this unnessecarry? I think it is, because I have seen the film many, many, times, and I absolutely KNOW that nobody talks in this film. Someone, do SOMETHING!!! Thanks.
Nvidia Facsimilie
[edit]A few years ago the PC graphics card manufacturer NVidia created a facsimile of this movie but rendered in real time on one of their new graphics cards. I think this might be worth mentioning in the article. I'm pretty sure that when they released it they also gave a lot of detail on the processes behind the original Pixar animation (including things like the time it took to render and the equipment used to create it), it might be worth looking that up also.

Reaction at 1986 SiGCHI/SIGGRAPH
[edit]I'm tempted to add something about this, though I doubt it's published anywhere. I was there. - Denimadept (talk) 04:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
--On the Shorts DVD Pixar put out last year, there is a Documentary about the genesis of the shorts department and Pixar is general, titled "A Short History." They discuss the extraordinary response Luxo Jr. received at Siggraph - a standing ovation almost immediately (as the film was still rolling, just a few seconds in, everyone went nuts).76.168.91.100 (talk) 05:57, 16 March 2009 (UTC)porters not logged in
- So they published something? Neat. As I remember it, everyone was stunned, then exploded. - Denimadept (talk) 06:05, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
"directorial debut"
[edit]I excised this phrase from the article where it said that Luxo Jr... "was also John Lasseter's directorial debut". After seeing the Pixar history doco on the WALL-E DVD I know that Lasseter won two student academy awards while at Cal Arts, plus he directed Andre and Wally-B, so this claim cannot be accurate. Citations
[edit]I note that many citations reference IMDB which, as I understood, is not a valid citation. Can someone confirm? --RedKnight (talk) 22:29, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Why does it refer to "Anglepoise desk lamps"?
[edit]I don't understand why this, and other articles in Wikipedia, refer to the characters as based on "Anglepoise desk lamps". Anglepoise is not a generic type of lamp, it is a specific trademarked product and Lasseter makes it quite clear that these lamps were modeled after a Luxo-branded lamp (hence the names). Further, one look at the design of an Anglepoise lamp shows that it has only a superficial resemblance to Luxo and Luxo Jr. Note the way the reflectors are connected to the balance arms and the fact that all of the springs on an Anglepoise lamp are at the bottom, whereas Luxo has a spring on the upper arm. If one is looking for a generic term for the type of lamp, "balance-arm" is far more accurate than Anglepoise. Bill321 (talk) 22:27, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Luxo Jr.'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 08:55, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
