Welcome
[edit]Hello Fred, welcome to Wikipedia.
You might find these links helpful in editing pages or creating new ones: Tutorial, How to edit a page, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should probably read our policies at some point too.
But don't feel you have to read every policy document before you do anything. Dive in, be bold in editing, and if you do anything wrong, someone will be quick to correct it and let you know (hopefully, politely!)
If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! -- ALargeElk | Talk 19:56, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Things to do
[edit]Hi Fred. You ask how you can help. The best way is just by adding knowledge. Among my first edits here were adding some information on the history of Saltaire, where I'd just been on holiday; creating an article about ChildLine, where I work; creating an article on Cricket in India, which I'd just been reading a book about; and correcting a whole load of spelling mistakes and grammar that I spotted when looking at random pages.
Alternatively, see if you can help with any of what's listed below.
You can help improve the articles listed below! This list updates frequently, so check back here for more tasks to try. (See Wikipedia:Maintenance or the Task Center for further information.)
Help counter systemic bias by creating new articles on important women.
Help improve popular pages, especially those of low quality.
Basically, just think about what you know or what you're prepared to learn about - and have fun! -- ALargeElk | Talk 09:57, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
