Born in Hawaii?
[edit]Stephen Alencastre was born in Madeira, but immigrated to Hawaii as a child. He is the first naturalized citizen of Hawaii and Portuguese person to be ordained to the episcopate. Bishop Silva will thus be the first Hawaii born bishop, but the second Portuguese person raised to the see of Honolulu. Aloysius Patacsil 00:00, May 18, 2005 (UTC)
Colloquialism
[edit]For purposes of encyclopedic entry, I believe that Father Silva's legal name, Clarence Silva, or Clarence R. Silva (see, the Vatican announcment of May 17, 2005), sans "Larry" is what should be used. Perhaps in the body of the text, it could annotated that Bishop-elect Silva is known as "Father Larry" to close friends and family. Aloysius Patacsil 00:21, May 18, 2005 (UTC)
Education
[edit]The Vatican announcement of May 17, 2005, clearly states, albeit in Italian, that Bishop-elect Silva went to Saint Joseph's Seminary for his undergraduate degree, then, to Saint Patrick at Menlo Park for the graduate degree in Divinity. Aloysius Patacsil 00:21, May 18, 2005 (UTC)
- I made some minor changes -- although the Metropolitan of San Francisco ideally presides over episcopal consecrations in his province, it is still uncertain at this time. Aloysius Patacsil 03:56, May 18, 2005 (UTC)
July 21, 2005, Consecration
[edit]Bishop Begin will be there in spirit. Aloysius Patacsil 20:08, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
Rector versus Administrator
[edit]I believe that the cathedral church of a diocese is administered by a rector - who ministers to the pastoral needs of the cathedral community. Reverend John Berger is an administrator possibly because Father Gross, as diocesan administrator cannot make permanent appointments, or perhaps, because Father Berger is not incardinated into the Honolulu diocese. As far as I understand, Father Gary Colton (definitely incardinated into the Honolulu diocese) styles himself as the pastor and not co-rector of the Co-Cathedral of Saint Theresa. I will research this issue and report back later. Aloysius Patacsil 19:32, May 27, 2005 (UTC)
