Re:Changes
[edit]Well, it's not currently running. It's "broken." Part of the launch track got dislodged and broke other parts of the ride. Also, when they were testing it before it opened, the dummies' HEADS fell off.
DUMMIES HEADS FELL OFF!! CAN PEOPLE JUST STOP SAYING THAT?
The dummies are'nt intact!
[edit]Will you please stop it with all of these rumors with the dummies! None of it is true!!! It never happened! Erase it from your mind! No dummies ever fell out, nor did any heads come off! If that did happen, do you think they would have opened it at all this season? Do you really think Six Flags wants heads of people coming off on one of their rides? Lawsuit-city! They'd go bankrupt, and besides, the state of NJ wouldn't have passed the ride in its test, and NJ is known as one of the states with one of the stricter roller coaster tests. No more about the dummies, okay?
- "Boss, the dummy's heads all fell off on the test ride."
- "Ah, the h*** with it, just let those kids on already."
I think I have proof that there are dummies; http://rcdb.com/ig2832.htm?picture=34, but seriously, heads detatched from bodies? Count me out. - Ceres3
MegaStructures
[edit]Justy fyi, that a MegaStructures article exists. This coaster was featured on the show MegaStructures recently. I started a stub article for MegaStructures - if you want to work the fact of being a documentary subject into the article, or watch the show and point at the article in your reference section.
Good article?
[edit]I feel this article has potential to be a good article again. I plan on adding more/better sources but is there anything else that anybody thinks should be done so it passes? --Astros4477 (talk) 21:38, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- After more sources are added, requesting a copy edit would probably be a good idea. Themeparkgc Talk 22:42, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have began cleaning up the article but does anybody have a reference for the 2009 lightning strike? The current source is Screamscape which is outdated. --Astros4477 (talk) 22:24, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- This and this came up in a Google News search. I'd go with the second as it would be considered more reliable. Themeparkgc Talk 04:37, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I'm going to stop reviewing the article until all the paragraphs that do not have a reference have one. There are numerous unreferenced paragraphs in the article.--Dom497 (talk) 00:25, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I will give you 7 days (until Friday, June 8, 2012) to find references. If references arn't added by then, I will be forced to fail the article.--Dom497 (talk) 18:50, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
- I understand, I didn't spend quite as much time on this article. I didn't do that much work on the History section as I should of but I'll start working on it.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:03, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
- Some improvement suggestions: add more references and some references only have the bare URL (fix this by added the title, accessdate, date, etc. parameters). I will give you 10 days to fix up the article.--Dom497 (talk) 00:26, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
- I have added references and deleted a lot of original research, what do you think now?--Astros4477 (talk) 18:28, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- What do you think now?--Astros4477 (talk) 21:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Here is what needs to be fixed:
- "Kingda Ka reopened on August 4, with the queue area modified so it no longer ran under the launch track.[7]" Reference #7 doesn't state any of this.
- "Before 2005's malfunction, Kingda Ka's queue area was much larger. It started at the main entrance arch, went under the launch track, traveled through two large switchback areas, and split into separate lines for each side of the station. Most of the entire line ran across the ride's infield. The modified main entrance to the station was previously the "Flash Pass" entrance" needs a reference.
- I know for sure this is true but unfortunately, I couldn't find anything besides for forums so I guess I'll have to remove it even though it is true.--Astros4477 (talk) 23:22, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- If the forum provides an image and clearly states what the image represents, I will except the forum as a reference.--Dom497 (talk) 19:15, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- This is what I was able to find.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:30, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I looked at the queue on Google Earth and I could see where the old queue was. If you can find another site that shows that the old queue isn't used anymore, you can use both websites for references that I will except. Your chose overall if you want to bother searching for a picture.--Dom497 (talk) 19:42, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I couldn't find another but why do I need two references for it?--Astros4477 (talk) 04:01, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- That reference only shows the old queue when in use. It does not show pictures that it is not in use anymore. Sure there are posts by other people in the forum that say the old queue is closed but there is nothing that verify that. If you find a picture that shows what the queue looks like now and clearly states that it is not in use any more, I will accept it. Sorry if I seem harsh, I'm just following the rules.--Dom497 (talk) 18:40, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well I can't find anything else. That's all I could find.--Astros4477 (talk) 18:58, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- "...was made on the same day as Six Flags Inc.'s announcement of its Chapter-11 bankruptcy restructuring plan" needs a reference.
- "Kingda Ka remained closed until the start of the 2012 operating season on April 5" needs a reference.
- "Jungle music is played during the wait (and throughout the Golden Kingdom section of the park, which was built for the ride)" needs a reference.
- "Intamin designed both Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster, and the two share a similar design and layout that differs primarily by the theme and the additional hill featured on Kingda Ka."
- Done--Astros4477 (talk) 00:34, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
This is the last time I am listing things to improve. If the article still has issues the next time I take a look at it, I will fail it. I'm not trying to sound mean, but I have already been way to generous for this GA review.--Dom497 (talk) 22:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
I have passed the article.--Dom497 (talk) 13:36, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Golden Ticket rating so low relative to nearly identical Top Thrill Dragster
[edit]Why are the ratings so low? Top Thrill started in top 10, and is now around 20, while this beats its records, but went from about 20 to about 40 in the ratings. Is it much rougher? B137 (talk) 07:41, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Opening sentence in lead
[edit]@ 50.49.109.144 -- I've left you a note on your talk page asking you to begin a discussion here. Since you haven't, I've done you the courtesy. Your edits lump several blue links together which should be avoided per WP:SEAOFBLUE. In addition, there's no reason to jam "accelerator" into the opening sentence. It's much cleaner to leave it in the second and link it there. First and foremost, it's a steel coaster. We can describe the model and layout in the following sentence. Feel free to discuss here, but do not continue to revert in the article. --GoneIn60 (talk) 03:06, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
Why “Kingda Ka”?
[edit]What’s the origin of the ride’s name? — ℜob C. alias ALAROB 13:53, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Alarob: I took a 30 minute look at this, so take this with a grain of salt. Contemporary unreliable sources and rumors cite it as being translated as various things, such as "King Tiger" or "Kingdom of Tigers" (Unreliable 1), "Lose your lunch" (Unreliable 2), or even based on a "mythical tiger" (this is cited in the current article, probably needs to be removed). My best guess, like some of those in the rumor mills, Six Flags probably made the term up as theme parks have done with similar roller coasters (I believe Gwazi was made up by Busch Gardens/Busch Entertainment, even if it was researched, and Kumba. I do not have a source but its a strong hunch). These current translations were probably based on original reports by reliable outlets, that cited the roller coaster to be located within "The Golden Kingdom" that included a tiger exhibit. The Asbury Park Press cited Six Flags as "now translating Kingda Ka as king of coasters" which was taken as fact by another source later down the line, but is not frequently mentioned by others during the same time period as of writing on Newspapers.com's database. Exact crane height
[edit]Over the years, anonymous IPs have attempted to add the exact crane heights to the article as seen in these recent examples: 29 February 2024 and 21 July 2024. Although these IPs geolocate to different locations, it seems to be the same editor given the language used, but interestingly a different height is chosen in each attempt. At the very least, a source is required, but even with a source, this is trivial information that doesn't really belong on an encyclopedia. If you are the IP editor, discuss here prior to re-adding. Thank you. --GoneIn60 (talk) 03:02, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
The whole, ride going to close thing.
[edit]As we know, Kingda Ka is rumored to be closing, or well as the time i'm writing this, closed. Despite the fact that these are just rumors, shouldn't it make sense for it to be included in the article? I see a lot of edits being reversed about that.
